Trip to Amalfi Coast

Weddings on the Amalfi Coast

Posted on 05/04/2017

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! Considering a destination wedding? Most couples who are interested in destination weddings look to the Caribbean for an idyllic romantic island where guests can bask in the sunshine and sip exotic rum drinks. Sounds great but if you want something just a bit more interesting why not consider the Amalfi Coast of Italy? Surprisingly enough, each year many couples, along with friends and family, make the journey to this destination wedding spot. Stretching along the southern side of Italy's Sorrentine Peninsula, the Amalfi coast dazzles with its mysterious grottos, craggy cliffs and shimmering bays. Nestled along the coastal mountains in the village of Furore is an agriturismo called Sant Alfonso owned and operated by Michela, her husband Nicola. It offers one of the most beautiful scenarios in the world with its breath-taking views.

This agriturismo/guest house is family run and very well maintained. They feel it's important to treat their guests like family. Accommodating up to 16 guests, the agriturismo offers rooms with ensuite baths, air conditioning, T.V. and wi-fi. The food served is seasonal, locally grown, and quite delicious! They also make their own wine and are happy to show you the wine cellar. The property, scenery, and local eats are incredible.

So, to get back to weddings! In October, I took a group to Sant Alfonso for a yoga and hiking trip. Amongst the group were my daughter, Samantha and her fiancé, Dimitri. Four weeks before the trip they announced they were going to get married AT the agriturismo! On the grounds of Sant Alfonso is a beautiful, small chapel dedicated to St. Alfonso Maria de' Liguori: the Redemptorist Fathers. In fact, in the second half of the XIX century, the house was used as a convent and he decided to stay here, searching peace and silence.

It was there on a herb and flower scented evening, as the sun set over the sparkling Mediterrean , that Samantha and Dimitri exchanged their vows. As I walked her up the path to greet her guests and groom, I could not help thinking how proud her Dad would have been seeing how beautiful and happy she looked on her way to the alter. At that moment, I was sure he was looking down on the gathering with happy tears. Michela, Nicola and their staff prepared a lovely setting, incredible food, music, champagne and cake! Sometimes a simple wedding with friends and family can turn out to be the most perfect wedding imaginable.

Along with partaking in this wondrous celebration, we (the guests) were able to have an exciting vacation in one of the most spectacular, charming destinations in the world.

If this sounds like your dream, I would be happy to discuss and help you make your wedding a day to remember!
